All India Mega Craft Expo is going on at Sri Sankara Hall, TTK Road, Alwarpet, Chennai. This expo is open and will go on until Aug. 15, 2016. Focus: Handloom, handicrafts and golu dolls. I went to this exhibition today and here are a few interesting items I found there –
You can see some interesting items made of brass on display above. A brass auto, brass chess coins, brass locks, brass door knobs and many more brass items were in abundance at the exhibition.
I found an artist, Raja M, signing as M Ragan, who was selling his own paintings. It seems he even works on custom painting requirements from customers. You can see/buy his paintings in the expo or contact him @ 9840512608.
There were many gollu/showcase decor items made of terracotta, wood and porcelain kept on display. A few are shown above. Here is the video of one of my favorite cute dolls there that shake their head automatically due to wind, unlike Thanjavur thalai-aati bommai which needs someone to push its head to shake!
Other than these, there were many more handloom/handicraft products from artisans across India on display/sale. I found sarees, handbags, tops, bed spreads, fashion jewellery, sculptures, toys, home decor, etc. If you are in Chennai and are looking for ideas to fill up your showcase or Golu steps, this exhibition is a good place to visit. Even otherwise, just go and look around – there are many useful products and some will surely catch your fancy.
