Meendum Oru Kadhal Kathai is a Tamil romantic movie/love story directed by Mithran Jawahar. It is a remake of a Malayalam movie – Thattathin Marayathu. The movie stars newcomer Walter Philips, Isha Talwar, Arjunan, Manoj K Jeyan, Thalaivasal Vijay, Nasser in the lead roles.
The movie is fine – it has a smooth screenplay, neither fast nor slow. The script writer has managed to create some suspense about what will happen next. The music, comedy and visuals are good, but certain characters (esp. the SI) are unbelievable! If you like love stories/romance movies, I guess you’ll like this movie.
The story is about a Hindu guy who is in love with a Muslim girl. He does many things in the first half to convince her, but she remains silent. It is in a last-ditch attempt by the hero, that too to bid goodbye, that she opens up.
Obviously there will be resistance, given the religions of the two lead characters. But how does the hero tackle and overcome all the problems forms the crux of the story.
This is a very different Hindu-Muslim love story. There is not much violence, at least not as much as I thought there would be. The story is simple, but the director has managed to keep it gripping at places. There are frequent songs, but they don’t feel totally out of place. The comedy is the best thing about this movie, I feel. The visuals and camera was also good.
It looks like the SI and his police team is either naïve or jobless. His character is the weakest in the movie, and quite unbelievable at that! But his is a main character as he not only takes huge efforts to help the lovers unite but even helps the hero set up a business.
Altogether a fine movie for an evening outing. Go see once in the theater – you won’t regret.
