Yes, you read that right. McDonald’s has introduced Rice in India. OK, not yet across India, but in Chennai. Across all its stores. Ain’t that exciting?
McDonald’s is no longer the burger-fries-wraps-nuggets only shop. You can walk in and order two varieties of rice anytime the shop is open – 1. Veggies & Cheese rice, 2. Beans & Gravy rice. I ordered veggies & cheese rice during a recent visit to their store at Spencer’s Plaza, Mount Road.
So that’s how the Veggies & Cheese rice looks. The cheese and boiled vegetables are on the top and the rice is below that. The first thing you do when you get your plate is –remove the lid, of course– mix the rice well with the vegetables/cheese. You’ll find this advisory on the cup also.
If you like cheese & if you like rice, you’ll love this dish. Since it is not too spicy you can give it to kids and all your family members. It seems McD is coming up with chilly sauce or some spicy sauce to go with this for people who prefer spicier dishes — I feel even pickle should be fine 🙂
The vegetables & rice are fresh. Surprisingly cheese goes well with rice! For regular McD patrons who cannot do without cheese, this dish should be a welcome surprise. Besides, it also gives an opportunity for people who don’t visit McD often to taste how their South Indian dishes have come back with a global flavour! Who doesn’t like rice in Chennai anyway? 🙂
I am very much looking forward to frequent McD in the future just to eat their rice. I like their globally local approach — well, actually, my stomach likes it 🙂
